Kali (also known as Kalika) is a major Hindu goddess in the Skaktism of the realms of time, creation, destruction, transformation, liberation, power, change and death. In the Hindu tantric tradition she is the first of ten Hindu goddesses known as Mahavidyas.  Her first recorded appearance was when she emerged from the Durga the mother goddess. Kali is known for tough love and is a primal force of nature endlessly dancing us that the truth cannot be obtained by material things, but by letting things come to oneself without being grubby of clingy.  While not considered a vampire in Hindu mythology she does embody the dark divine feminine and many aspects aligning her with the concept of a vampire.  Depicted most often depicted in a fierce and protective manner with wild hair, dark black or blue skin and her tongue sticking out symbolizes her role in destroying ignorance.  Although she is distinct from creatures like vampires in western folklore and mythology, both culturally and religiously she appeals to the death and dark aspects of life as the vampire mythos. Kali magically represents the power to release in what you is true often hidden remaining in what Karl Jung calls the shadow..  This truth is not the ultimate truth but which is uniquely yours and is power that remains behind socially constructed masks.  For prayers and chanting there is the  "Kali Gayatri Mantra,” and ritual worship known as puja includes lighting lamps (diya), making offerings to a kali shrine and performing Aarti a ceremonial worship involving light.  All this is done especially in her most significant festival celebrated all over India dedicated to kali called Kali Puja.

Hekate (known as Trivia in Rome) is the Greek goddess of the Magick, spells and Witches, while also associated with crossroads, the moon, graves, ghosts, night and light.  Although she does not have a direct relation to vampires as a goddess of witches, night and the moon she obviously appeals to vampires who are magickal practitioners. Originally her first recorded appearance was as a major deity of the sky, earth and sea in the 8th century BCE in Hesiod’s Theogony.  After the rise of Christianity in the 2nd - 3rd centuries CE she was considered a Soteria the Mother of Angels and the Anima Mundi (Cosmic World Soul).   Historically Hekate is presented as a three form or three faced goddess, which is not to be confused with the triple goddess of Maiden, Mother and Crone. Her symbol is a key and she was always travelled with a pack of dogs. She has the symbol of the torch which comes from her decent into the underworld to look for her Demeter’s daughter Persephone who was abducted.  The three faces are theorized to be able to look in all directions on the crossroads and represents choices of directions.  Special pillars called Hecataea, erected in her honor stand in ancient crossroads to protect from evil spirits for weary travelers.  Working with Hekate for vampires is very natural as her being the goddess of the night and moon.  She is most powerful during the new moon and this is where most rituals are done in her honor.  Altars to Hekate by vampires may have her traditional colors of red, black and silver with statues to the goddess, blood red candles, and dark stones. Hekataion, are small shrines dedicated to Hakate can be as simple statue with her looking to the three directions.  Hakate is an ancient deity with many aspects and although she is not a vampiric entity there is often much worship of her from the vampire world, thus great crossover between the two realms.

No other god form, spirit or deity is as associated as modern vampire mythos as is Lilith, she is mother of the night and all who inhabit it from demons to vampires. Her history begins in ancient Sumer / Babylon as a type of succubus vampire spirit called the Lilitu, to the rebellious and assertive first wife of Adam in the jewish text the Zahor.  Then she was deified as a goddess and introduced to the western world in 1809 in Goethe’s play Faust and evolved into a modern icon of feminine empowerment.  She is the symbol of the first rebel not conforming to the divine plan and is the mother of creatures of the night.   Her colors are red, black and purple and her feast day is said to be October 26th, the day she was cast out of the Garden of Eden.  Her totem animals are the owl, emblematic knowledge, the lion due to her strength, authority and fierce independence,  the snake for knowledge and the peacock who can ingest poisonous animals representing the transmutation of darkness to beauty.  Lilith often appears as a bat winged succubus or a red haired nude with pale skin and a yellow and orange snake draped around her.  She also a survivor and has the powers of regeneration. Lilith stands fiercely independent and whispers echo she chooses her devotees for their solitary nature rarely building temples or shrines in her name, but individual devotees can make an altar to her if it is not shared with other deities.  Work with her is on a one on one basis and she is empowering shadow work for self intragation, cultivating self-expression and authenticity, and in the celestial realm she represents seduction and allure.  The “Children of Lilith” are her devotees and she chooses daughters who need work on themselves or represents her characteristics, even rarer when she chooses a sons of Lilith who must embrace his divine feminine deeply to resonate with her.
